Step into a space that feels like a breath of fresh air and the embrace of a centuries-old European apartment. The design duo behind SmithErickson—Stephanie Smith and Jenelle Erickson—set out to create a primary bedroom that feels like a cherished retreat, deeply rooted in history yet effortlessly refined.
The inspiration for this primary bedroom stems from a desire to create a timeless retreat; one that feels like a cherished escape to an old French country home. The foundation of the design is Divine Flooring’s Pied-à-Terre Trocadero, setting the tone with its warm, “lived-in” elegance. The hardwood applied to the ceiling and beams echoes the beauty of the herringbone flooring which was the perfect choice for this space.
Every element was chosen to evoke a sense of history and craftsmanship; a marble fireplace surround with soft curves reminiscent of a timeworn chimney stack, tumbled stone walls with overgrout for an aged textural depth and layered organic bedding resulting in a feeling of being effortlessly collected over time. Dark wood and brass details bring contrast and a patinaed richness, while antique inspired artwork and vintage style lighting complete the old-world charm.
The result is a space that feels storied, serene, and undeniably inviting; an escape within the home, steeped in quiet luxury
"We used the Pied-à-Terre Trocadero on the floor and also on the ceiling. It really was the foundation for our design. So this was our starting point with the flooring. It was a beautiful inspiration - being a nice, natural, light, refreshing tone that created a beautiful jumping off point to our more earthy, deeper, rich tones with the terracottas, earth browns, and olive greens."
