Mountain modern

by melissa ennis design

For Melissa Ennis, design begins with connection - to place, to feeling, to story. Nestled in inspiration drawn from Alberta's Bow Valley, this mountain modern ensuite from is a quiet relevation - an escape wrapped in wood, rooted in memory, and elevated by intention.

THE PROCESS

Mountain Modern puts a spin on the traditional mountain aesthetic, playing with modern shapes and materials and using elements found in nature to inspire the colour palette.

Specifically inspired by the Bow Valley in Alberta, such as the slate found on the trails at Ha Ling Peak, the moss found in the forests of Grotto Mountain, and the warmth in the trees while basking at Quarry Lake, Mountain Modern takes cues from the surroundings and envelopes it in the interior to give the home a sense of place.

THE RESULT

Playing with materiality, Haro Velvet Brown was used on both the floors and walls of this moody, Modern Mountain ensuite to create warmth, texture, and a comforting escape.

THE JOURNEY

"We're always excited to collaborate with Divine because they are innovative and bringing out new materials, new colours. We're always excited to see what's up and coming, and we obviously wanted to jump at the opportunity to do something unique that didn't have any restrictions on the design and just do kind of whatever we wanted and have a lot of fun with the design."
