Timeless is at the core of every space Lori Sellmer creates. Based in Calgary, her firm specializes in luxury residential interiors with a distinctly architectural sensibility - a nod to her background in architecture and lifelong love of travel. Here she merges the clean simplicity of Scandinavian design with the warmth and intentionality of Japanese aesthetics.
Inspired by the Haro in Light White, Lori decided to capture the fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian design within a serene mountain setting. The Japandi style focuses on clean lines and a minimal aesthetic and is also known for incorporating elements of nature. The light and airy wood tone evokes a calming and natural feeling across the floor in the ski lodge. A dropped seating area around a Scandinavian style hanging fireplace allows for more of the natural texture of the wood to be seen, as well as provide an opportunity to highlight the visually impactful changes of direction in the hardwood flooring, and helping to lead your eye to the warmth of the seating area.
The concept allowed the wood to flow up the walls and ceiling in the front entryway, creating a cocoon of natural material to welcome you into the warmth and natural beauty of the lodge's design.
Feeling inspired to keep the textured wood tones repeating throughout the lodge, Lori Sellmer Design incorporated a second richer tone of the flooring. By using the Haro Velvet Brown across the expansive vaulted ceiling it allows the feeling of the contrasting wood tones to completely embrace the space.
“We always love to collaborate with Divine whenever we can. This one seemed like a really good opportunity to just show people what you can do with the flooring and not do the everyday, sort of throw some flooring on the floor. We loved it. And being able to highlight our design style and share it with people is a great opportunity. And Divine always supports designers, so it's lovely to have that sort of collaboration together and showcase your products that we love."
