For designer Jamie Banfield, every room is more than a space - it's a story waiting to unfold. Grounded in the priciple of relaxed luxury, Banfield's design ethos is "family-centric", and blends function, elegance, and soul.
Infused with the vibrant spirit of Portugal, this mudroom and laundry room bring together layers of charm, design, and cultural inspiration. Capturing the energy of the bustling cities, the warmth of tradition, and the serenity of nature, every detail tells a story of old-world craftsmanship meeting modern functionality.
At the heart of the design is Voyage II, Marina Mist luxury vinyl plank, which seamlessly connects both spaces while giving each its unique character. The mudroom extends this flooring behind the bench seating, grounding the space with depth and texture. In the laundry room, a blue and white checkerboard pattern—inspired by Portugal’s iconic azulejos—adds a playful yet timeless touch. This same flooring detail is carried behind the washer and dryer, subtly tying the two spaces together.
Layers of rich, warm, organic millwork contrast beautifully against soft-painted cabinetry, creating a sense of depth and balance. Shiplap-clad walls, antique mirrors, and metal mesh accents introduce a sense of history, evoking the charm of a European getaway.
Designed with both beauty and function in mind, this space embraces the everyday needs of a busy family.
With every thoughtful detail, this space offers more than just a place for daily routines—it’s a moment of escape, a nod to Portugal’s rich culture, and a reminder that even the most functional spaces can inspire.
“Our experience working with Divine ties back to our main ethos of “family-centric”. It feels like a very easy and approachable team and when you think about core qualities we look for in our families, one of those is trust. And how you gain trust is through communication and doing what you say you’re going to do. Our whole experience working with Divine has been that from start to finish. And I think this project shows that, and how there is such a big family within Divine and how they’re very inclusive and they want to bring new things in, and how we can bring those things to the world together as a family.”
